Elon Musk Hopes We Are Living In A Virtual Reality
Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX and co-founder of Tesla Motors, discussed the possibility that we are living in a virtual reality at Code Conference, a tech conference in California.
When asked what the likelihood was that we are all living in a simulated matrix, Musk uses video games as an analogy.
“40 years ago we had Pong – two rectangles and a dot. That’s where we were. Now 40 years later we have photo realistic, 3D simulations with millions of people playing simultaneously and it’s getting better every year.”
He goes on to suggest that even if the speed of those advancements dropped by 1000, the rate of improvement would still be moving forward at an intense speed.
Musk says he himself believes that “it would seem to follow that the odds that we’re in ‘base reality’ is one in billions”, but hopes his prediction is true because otherwise it means the world will end.
He concluded by stating “if civilization stops advancing, then that may be due to some calamitous event that stops civilization.”
Musk has donated mass amounts of money into research on the dangers of artificial intelligence.
