Lake Atitlan: Her Many Mysteries (Part 2)

The Lady of the Lake?

The locals say that Lake Atitlan is alive.  There have been rumors of mer-people and living spirits there. When the lake is angry it is not safe to travel on it.  The winds come up and the water looks as if it is boiling in a matter of seconds.   The lanchas, or boats, get tossed about rapidly and everyone has to hold on tight.  The most popular to travel from village to village is by boat.  This is the fastest form of travel and many commuters take the lanchas every day.

If you talk to the lake and share your troubles with it, it will bring you peace. If you ask for love, it will comply by bringing your soulmate to you.  But this only happens if you ask with a pure heart and with the utmost respect for the lake.

Magnetic forces will drug you..

Arriving on Lake Atitlan, you notice it is very calming.  Your sense of time slows down and you talk slower.  Life’s stress drops away.  Or… you might feel as if you have been drugged.

The volcanoes surrounding this lake are stunning.  But if you dive down too deep in the lake, your head could explode!  The magnetic forces from the volcanic activity make the lake too dangerous if you are trying to dive.

All sense of time is lost there, perhaps due to the magnetic quality of the lake.  Even the most diligent scientifically minded people lose track of time there.

Another odd thing noticed is that everyone says they need to take fewer showers than normal when at the lake.  We interviewed several tourists and they were shocked when they realized they hadn’t bathed in days and hadn’t even noticed this.  They didn’t feel dirty or the need to shower.

Now it’s Your Turn!

Do you think there is possibly a Lady of the Lake or a mermaid that grants wishes?

Could the Lake be alive or is all this just wishful or fantastical thinking?

Why don’t people need to shower as often at this lake?

We’d love to hear from you.
